Van den Berg wins on Sunshine Tour

07/30/2010 - Port Elizabeth, South Africa (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ulrich van den Berg shot an even-par 72 on Friday, but it was enough to capture the Vodacom Business Origins of Golf event.

Van den Berg finished at 14-under 202 and won by a stroke at Humewood Golf Club.

Second-round leader Daniel Greene struggled to a four-over 76 on Friday and came in second place in his pursuit for a first victory on the Sunshine Tour.

Greene held a two-shot lead on the 17th hole, but landed his third in a pot bunker and played out sideways. He gave himself 40 feet for par, but three- putted for a double-bogey.

The two were tied for first, then van den Berg lipped out a three-foot par putt on the 18th hole. Greene pulled his drive at 18 and knocked his second into another pot bunker. He blasted out to 22 feet, but left his par putt four feet short.

Greene had to make his four-footer for bogey to force a playoff, but he missed to the left giving van den Berg his first win on the circuit in almost three years.

"It would have been nice to have seen that putt go in and I could have won it rather than Daniel lose it," van den Berg said of his putt on 18. "I feel a bit sad for Daniel because I have been in that situation before, and it really makes you feel empty. But I'm sure he will be in this position again, and he'll win."

Doug McGuigan shot a four-under 68 and took third at minus-11.

Dion Fourie (67), Alan Michell (69) and Jean Hugo (71) shared fourth at 10- under 206.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value

If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture.  Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).

For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot.  The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.

TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the  drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.

"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,'  it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."

"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
